CLUB RULES & POLICIES TRAINING AND PLAYING RULES TRAINING If you are unable to get to training, ensure that the coach knows beforehand; text, e-mail or phone Get to training on time; preferably 5 minutes before the stated start time. Get ready quickly; do not spend 20 minutes talking to your friends, whilst putting your shoes on. Bring water and drink regularly The ladders are a huge part of what we do. Do each exercise properly; give yourself a target of how quickly you can do them. If you are not well or fit enough to do the running, then do not come training at all. Sitting watching other people run is a disruptive influence. Do the running as asked; don’t jog through it because you think it is ok, because it is not. If we run eight, then make sure you do them all. If you don’t run properly, don’t expect significant court time at your next game. If training involves learning and listening, then do just that. Listen and concentrate on what you are being told; if you get it wrong, you will end up on the bench in games. Don’t talk whilst the coach is talking!!! When there are shooting drills, do them properly. You should aim for 9 out of 10 lay-ups, 7 out of 10 two-pointers and 5 out of 10 threes. Use every minute of every session to the full. If you don’t do it in training, how will any coach trust you to do it in games? It is not like turning a tap on and off. The coach will assume that you are available for every game – if you are not available for any game then you must let the coach know as soon as possible; text, e-mail or phone. Make sure you read the weekly update and take it home for your parents to read as well. Make sure you check the website at least 2 or 3 times a week MATCHES Turn up at the time you are told (1 hour before tip-off for home games). Make sure you have the warm-up t-shirt. Warm up properly before the game; run first and then stretch. Do not come to the game with the expectation that you will get on to play; you may not because the matches are likely to be much tougher this season. At time outs come in quickly and listen to what the coach has to say. Have your drink and towel ready beforehand as the coach doesn’t want you rooting around in your bag for valuable seconds which should be used for listening. At half time listen to what the coach has to say and then, if time, go and shoot. You do not need to talk to anyone else; the only person who has information that will help you, is the coach. If you are taken out because you have made mistakes, don’t sit on the bench sulking; sort yourself out because you may have to go back in. During the game treat your team mates, coach, opponents, officials and spectators with politeness and respect EVEN IF THEY DON’T ! At the end of the game, shake hands with the other team before you collect your bag etc. Warm down after the game For home games, stay and eat with the other team – let us show them how sport should take place. Don't forget to check the website 2 or 3 times a week
