CLUB INFORMATION FOR PLAYERS & PARENTS
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Southend Swifts Basketball Club for
the 2010/11 Season. The club is delighted to confirm its continuing
partnership with Eastwood School which means that we will again
train and play exclusively at the excellent facilities that the
school offers. The Club will be running ten teams – U14, U16, U18
girls and U13, U16, U18 boys in the England Basketball League, U15 &
U13 girls in the new East League, Senior Men in The Essex Senior
League and an U12 team in the Essex Central Venue Competition (to be
confirmed). The Club will also continue to work closely with the
Eastwood School Sports Partnership to provide coaching for Primary
School age children on Fridays from 4-6pm.
The new season starts on Wednesday 1st
September and the first National League games take place on Saturday
October 2nd. There will be pre-season friendly games for
all teams during September. The Club has its own website where copies
of all policies and rules will be posted along with fixtures, results
and day to day club information - please check it regularly.
For full membership details including costs please see Paul May or
Steve Pearl and ask for a Club Information Pack

IMPORTANT NOTICE -
due to the very expensive sports hall floor - under no circumstances will
players or spectators be allowed onto the court itself with shoes or trainers that have been outside -
players please bring your basketball boots with you and put them on inside the building -
spectators please wipe your feet on the mats provided and walk around
the outside of the court not on it. Thank you.
HOME MATCHES
U18, U16 & U14 GIRLS - most of these games will be
played on Sundays at Eastwood School but some games may be played on
Saturdays.
U18, U16, U13 BOYS - most of these games will be
played on Saturdays at Eastwood School but some may be played on
Sundays.
U15 & U13 GIRLS – these games will be mainly played
in a TRIANGULAR format (ie. 3 teams playing each other in shortened
games at each other’s venue) as opposed to home and away games, which
means there may be only 1 or 2 home games for these teams and could be
Saturdays or Sundays.
U12 MIXED - we are hoping that the Essex Central Venue
Competition goes ahead this season which should provide once a month
tournaments for our U12's. We also hope to have friendly games for
U11's and U12's.
AWAY MATCHES
These will vary from team to team but the majority
of our opponents play on Saturday afternoons. Most of our teams will
have only one game per weekend; however, there will be occasions
during the season where some of the teams will have two games in one
weekend i.e. both Saturday and Sunday. Although we have use of a
mini-bus most weekends we will mainly use this for the longer away
trips as it is very expensive to hire. Therefore we would be grateful
for offers of help with transport by cars for those away games that
are relatively close.
