CLUB INFORMATION FOR PLAYERS & PARENTS
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Southend Swifts
Basketball Club for the 2008/9 Season. The club is delighted to
announce that it will be training and playing exclusively at the brand
new court at Eastwood School, Leigh-on-Sea this season and if all goes
well, for many seasons to come. For the first time ever the Club will
have three training nights (Tues/Wed/Thur) and will at last be able to
have dedicated team training for all its players. The Club will be
running 9 teams – U14, U16 & U18 Boys & Girls and Senior Women in the
England Basketball League, Senior Men in The Essex Senior League and
an U12 Mixed team in the Essex Central Venue Competition. The Club
will also be working closely with the Eastwood School Sports
Partnership to provide coaching for local Primary Schools. The new
season starts on Tuesday 2nd September and the first
National League games take place on Sunday October 5th. The
Club has its own website where copies of all policies and rules will
be posted along with fixtures, results and day to day club information

HOME MATCHES
SENIOR WOMEN
– most matches will take place on Saturdays at Eastwood School at 5pm.
U18 & U16 WOMEN
- most of these games will be played on Saturday afternoons at
Eastwood School but some games will be played on Sundays.
UNDER 18 BOYS, U16 BOYS,
U14 Boys & U14 GIRLS
- most of these games will be played on Sundays at Eastwood School but
some will be played on Saturday afternoons.
AWAY MATCHES
These will vary from team
to team but the majority of our opponents play on Saturday afternoons.
Most of our teams will have only one game per weekend; however, there
will be occasions during the season where some of the teams will have
two games in one weekend i.e. both Saturday and Sunday. Although we
have use of a mini-bus most weekends we will mainly use this for the
longer away trips as it isn’t cheap to hire. Therefore we ask parents
to help with transport to the closer games.
PRIMARY SCHOOL COACHING
We are delighted to say that Swifts first
ever primary school age coaching programme starts at Eastwood School from Saturday Oct 4 onwards.
We
will be coaching Years 5 & 6 Boys &
Girls from primary schools in the Eastwood School Sports Partnership on
Saturday & Sunday mornings throughout the season. The coaching is not
restricted to pupils from those schools, any boys and girls in Year 5 or 6 can come along, just turn up with suitable clean indoor trainers,
